Belated birthday greetings to Eva Sutherland of Pine Island Lodge. Feb. 25, the family members including her daughter, Grace Flewell of Poplar Ridge near Red Deer, Alta., celebrated her birthday at the lodge. We are pleased to know Eva is feeling much better after a recent illness.
Kevin Schimelfenig and his daughters returned recently after spending two weeks in Arizona visiting his parents Sighhart and Ada Schimelfenig who are spending the winter there. The season has been cooler than usual there.
Julie and Lynn Maxwell returned March 2 from Spain where they spent two weeks visiting with their brother, Robbie, who is teaching English at Nigren. They had a busy time in the state of Galicia as well as spending some time in Lisbon, Portugal where they toured visiting art galleries, aquariums and many historical spots.
Vigo, in Galicia, Spain, where Robbie lives and works is a seaport city that has many interesting spots to visit and has beautiful beaches where they spent many hours.
The ancient city of Ourense in Galicia is interesting. As well as many historical sites, the hot springs were a great attraction. Also in Galicia are many forested areas which provide lots of natural features to see while hiking.
It was carnival time in Spain, so there were many parades. In the small towns the parades were special with interesting floats, costumes and fun.
