This week I bring you the graduating class of 2011 from H. Hardcastle School. This year we had 10 young people moving on to further their education or into the work force. The festivities began on the evening of June 28 when the graduation awards banquet took place.
The meal began with Joshua LaClare giving the blessing. Following the supper, served by the Edam Catering Club, Cody Cadrain was called upon by MC Mikayla Detillieux to give the toast to the teachers with Trina Deobald replying. Kristen Gordon gave the toast to the parents with Pam Gordon replying. The final toasts were to the girls, given by Mitchell Detillieux and to the boys given by the only girls in the class, McKenzie Nordell, Debbie McFarlane and Kristen Gordon. The awards were then given out by principal Byron Merkosky and vice-principal Lorne Long.
June 30 at 2 p.m. the graduates entered the gym with their escorts to the music, Heroes by Gord Bamford. Brooke Roach open the ceremonies with the national anthem accompanied by graduate Kristen Gordon on the piano. Debbie McFarlane then welcomed all who came to celebrate their achievements. This was followed by friends introducing the graduates to a slide show of their childhood and of their camping trip in the fall. The valedictory address was given by Kristen Gordon. The scholarships and scrolls were presented by Byron Merkosky and Lorne Long as well as guest presenters. McKenzie Nordell then took the podium to acknowledge those who played an important role in the day. The graduates left the gym to On My Way by Phil Collins.
