Several students from Grades 5 to 8 attended the Punt, Pass, Kick competition at St. Vital School in Battleford, Oct. 15.
The purpose of this competition is to promote minor football in Saskatchewan. This is the first time our school has participated in this competition and all students reported that it was fun. Gage Storm, in Grade 5, finished second in punting for his age group. Grade 8 student Colton Waterhen won in his age group for passing and went on to compete in the provincial competition in Saskatoon.
The senior girls' volleyball team attended a tournament in Hafford. They won all their games in the round robin, placing first, but lost a close semi final match against Hafford. They also attended a two-day tournament in Kerrobert where they also lost in the semi finals. They reported they really enjoyed the tournament and their experience in Kerrobert.
The junior boys' and girls' teams went to a tournament in Medstead. They played well and are improving their skills every time they play. They participated in conference playoffs Oct. 27.
Our senior soccer team attended the regional playoffs for seven vs. seven soccer in Rosthern, Oct. 21. They did not advance to the next level of playoffs, but did play well and have greatly improved throughout the season.
During Education Week, the school was very pleased to have a local author speak to our Grades 1 to 8 students. Marion Mutala came to share her stories and book. She is a former teacher and now an author. The first book she shared was Baba's Babushka, about a magical Ukrainian Christmas adventure, set in Hafford. Her book included many pictures of her own family and facts about her heritage.
Also during Education Week, a community breakfast was held. The staff arrived early to cut up fruit and muffins and several community members came to have breakfast with the staff and students.
Parent-teacher interviews will be held the evenings of Nov. 8 and 9. There will not be any school Nov. 14.
Our annual Remembrance Day Service will be held Nov. 10, at 10:45 a.m. Everyone is welcome.
Mrs. Cardin has started a Writers' Workshop Club Wednesdays at noon hour. Grades 4 and up are invited to attend and improve their writing skills.
Mrs. Stott and Mrs. Jackson are running the noon hour chess club for students interested in chess.
Ms. Gillatt, Mrs. Deline and Mrs. Olchowski are organizing and running the noon hour sports.
