The award winners in the poetry, poster and essay contest, sponsored by the Neilburg/Marsden branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, were announced Nov. 11 at the ceremonies held in the Neilburg Community Hall.
Colour poster winners in the primary section (Grades 1, 2 and 3) were Jaiden Graham (first), Emma Benoit (second) and Riley Jackson (third). There were no entries in this division for any of the other categories.
In Grades 4, 5 and 6, Travis Morgan was the creator of the poster that placed first in the black and white category. Wyatt Marshall came second and Carter Cammidge was third.
Colour poster (4, 5 and 6) was won by Raymond Granger, with Mahaliah Foulkes in second and Jordan Czerniak third.
McKenzie Horvath was first in the Grade 4, 5, 6 poetry contest. Ethel Borja was second and Eugene Rathwell was third.
Craig Hewko wrote the top essay for this section. Jacob Peters placed second in the essay category and Ethel Borja was third.
Hanna Herle drew the top black and white poster entry for Grades 7 through 9. Breana Conlon was second and Ethan Moir was third.
Paige Watson was the artist for the top colour poster in this division. Kylie Goodfellow was second. Trisha Martineau and Connor Urlacher tied for third place for their posters.
Christine Madlang-Awa was the recipient of the top prize for poetry. Trisha Martineau placed second, with Hanna Herle in third. Herle also received recognition for writing the best essay in this division. Taryn Timmermans placed second in the essay contest, with no third prize awarded.
In the senior division (Grades 10 through 12), Laura Hegel won the black and white poster contest. Ashlee Goodfellow placed second and Shayla Koedyk was third.
Chad Graham was the first place winner for his colour poster and Brandon Morgan placed second. Again, there was no third prize awarded.
Kelton Bossert wrote the winning poem. Dustin Hafner was second and Arlee Walde was selected as the third place winner.
In the essay category, McKayla Granger placed first, Kasey Schmidt was second and Erich Johnson was third.
All winners received certificates and their creative efforts will be forwarded on to the next level for judging.
