John Paul II Collegiate honoured six students with Crusader of the Month awards at the school's Advent Mass Dec. 20.

Meeting the criteria set to be considered Crusader of the Month are: Division III - Victoria Winterholt and Skylar Dobrowolsky, both Grade 8 students; Division IV - Madison Bugler (Grade 10), Crystal Hall (Grade 11), Makenna Cameron (Grade 12) and Rita Panapasa (Grade 12).

Students are nominated for this award who: demonstrates a real effort and desire to learn; demonstrates involvement in school life and activities; demonstrates involvement in church life and activities; demonstrates respect for all school policies and personnel; demonstrates friendliness and support for other students; and demonstrates active involvement in classroom activities.

Skylar has shown significant improvement in academics. His nominator commented that, not only has he been doing extremely well academically, he is also becoming a leader in class. His focus, example and success are worthy of recognition. Skylar's hard work has earned him a place on the honour roll.

Victoria has been a busy Grade 8 student this year. She takes initiative in SRC activities and carries out her obligations thoroughly. She demonstrates great school spirit, and never misses a chance to dress up on spirit days. Victoria has a smile for everyone and is helpful in the classroom. In addition, Victoria is an honour roll student.

Madison is another student extremely involved in school life at JPII. She is a dedicated athlete, playing soccer as well as basketball. She has been involved in the Mission Team since its inception, and, according to her nominator, is the heart and soul of the team this year. Madison is involved with life in her church and is an honour roll student.

Another involved student at John Paul II is Crystal. Crystal is active in the SRC and the Key Club. She is an excellent model of school spirit and willingly lends a hand where needed. Always positive and friendly, Crystal, too, is an honour roll student.

Makenna is involved in many programs at John Paul II. She is a member of SADD, the Mission Team and on the SRC. Makenna's school spirit is obvious to everyone. She is an excellent mentor to the younger SRC members. Not only does Makenna volunteer countless hours at school, she also commits time to the Boys and Girls Club.

Rita's nominator says, "Rita is a model student and a true Crusader. She demonstrates maturity and respect consistently in her interactions with students and teachers. Rita is respectful to all, very genuinely a lady." Rita maintains excellent grades.

All six crusaders are excellent models of our Catholic Christian values. The school appreciates their generous gift of time and the model of leadership they provide!
