Student achievement celebrated

The Affinity CU $500 scholarship went to Tom Wensley and the Kare Ag $500 went to Melissa Saunders, both Grade 12 students.

Many volunteers were recognized and the secretarial staff of Monique Duperreault and Sonia Sutherland were thanked for all their effort.

The community service award went to the Grade 3 and 4 class of Don George who go every week to the Borden Care Home to visit and read to the residents.

The Governor General award for a 2010 graduate went to Luke Meister with Tyler Tracksell, very close second.

Borden Lions John Buswell and Archie Wainwright presented plaques to Melissa Saunders and Tamara Tkaczyk who placed first and second locally, at zone speak-offs and at the district convention.

Band awards were presented to graduating students Melissa Saunders and Tom Wensley, who have both played in the band since Grade 5. Each plays two or more instruments. A drama award was presented to Michael Crabb.

Athletic awards were presented by the coaches. Most deserving volleyball awards were earned by: junior boys - Connor Wainwright; junior girls - Nikita Pascoe; senior boys - Jesse Pidwerbesky; senior girls - Madison Sutherland. Basketball award winners were: juniors - Ryan Howell and Emma Pidwerbesky; seniors - Lucas Julseth and Dani Joint-Skillingstad.

Badminton medallions went to Ryan Howell in juniors and Jackson Wiebe for seniors.

Most deserving athletes were Dustin Bezugly (track) and Emma Pidwerbesky (cross-country). Earning the curling awards were Andrew Derksen for junior boys, Sara Prescesky for junior mixed and Robynn Pidwerbesky for senior girls.

Athlete of the year goblets went to Connor Wainwright, Emma Pidwerbesky, Jackson Wiebe and Robynn Pidwerbesky.

Citizenship awards went to Brook Faith for kindergarten to Grade 2, Zach Martens for Grade 3/4, Rachel Sutherland for Grade 5/6, Graham Sargent for Grades 7-9 and Tom Wensley for Grades 10-12.

Leadership awards went to Carson Derksen for kindergarten to Grade 2, Danika Pidwerbesky for Grades 3/4, Natalie Anderson for Grades 5/6, Jasmine Bezugley for Grades 7 to 9 and to Dani Joynt-Skillingstad for Grades 10 to 12.

Most Improved student medals went to Jade Matte and Sadie Funk in kindergarten to Grade 2, Angellya Tracksell in Grades 3/4, Nikita Pascoe in Grades 5/6, and Donovan Hebig in Grades 7/8.

Receiving certificates for Honour Roll (80 - 89.9 per cent) were: Grade 7 - Brooklyn Gader, Mackenzie Piprell, Graham Sargent, Cole Sutherland; Grade 8 - Andrew Derksen, Kristie Hembery, Cassandra Lumgair, Emma Prescesky; Grade 9- Avery Fairbrother, Deidre Hebig, Myron Metanchuk, Connor Wainwright; Grade 10 - Aryn Polichuk & Deanna Wall; Grade 11 - Dustin Bezugly, Michael Crabb, George Hembery, Dani Joynt-Skillingstad, Ty Sargent, Madison Sutherland and Nicole Tracksell; Grade 12 - Jesse Pidwerbesky, Brittany Schroeder and Tom Wensley.

Awards for Distinction(90+ average): Grade 7 - Aidan Loessin; Grade 8 - Jasmine Bezugly, Emma Pidwerbesky and Duncan Sutherland; Grade 9 - Brad Brazeau; Grade 10 - Chris Anderson, Allison Meister, Robynn Pidwerbesky and Jesse Wensley; Grade 11- Lucas Julseth, Courtney Wainwright and Jackson Wiebe; Grade 12 - Melissa Saunders.

Highest average awards were presented to Aidan (91 per cent), Jasmine (95.4 per cent), Brad (93.6 per cent), Robynn (92.4 per cent), Lucas (93.8 per cent) and Melissa (90.6 per cent).

Thank you was extended to all those who donated to the awards night, the council for the supper and to those who looked after the sound system, decorating, setting up the gym and the photographer for the yearbook.

Kindergarten to Grade 6 students from Borden School travelled to Perdue June 8 for their annual hi-lo meet.

Achieving super highs were Brooke Brazeau, Zach Martens, Carson Derksen, Brooke Faith, Clayton Wiebe, Natalie Anderson, Wyatt McPhail, Chloe Redhead, Savannah Sutherland, Danika Pidwerbesky and Nicole Nemanishen. Earning medallions for their age group were Chloe( 104 points), Savannah (180), Clayton (130), Danika (120) and Natalie (110).
