It was getting dry until the rain that soaked up most of Sunday. It is true that April showers bring May flowers and that an inch of rain is better than a foot of snow.
It is good to see a few more snowbirds home for the season. Duane and Jean Massett have returned to Mullingar, causing the population of the hamlet to double.
We expect to see the remainder fly in this week.
The final night for operations at the rink was March 21. The Rabbit Lake Rec Centre board comprising of Lesley Salisbury, Crystal Wright, Curtis McNabb and Alan Martens need to be commended on another successful season. The community enjoyed the Tuesday night burgers and fries, the evening on bunnock and the opportunity for kids to learn to skate. A big thank you goes to the instructors Kodi and Hailey Antonuk and to Trevor Pauls who did the power skating. Your commitment to the kids of the community is greatly appreciated. Unfortunately there was water on the ice so the final night was a games night, a cakewalk and door prizes donated by business in and around Rabbit Lake. Approximately 40 skaters were involved this winter.
The Meeting Lake Regional Park Authority has been busy preparing for a new season. Rick and Lois Armbruster have been hired as park managers. They have moved into the park and are busy getting ready. It is not too early to book campsites, other than seasonal sites, for the summer. Incidentally, the park chairperson is Darren Ulmer, not Darren Plummer as reported last week. How did my spell checker miss that?
Local painters and painter wannabes will have a day of landscape painting April 2 with Dorreen Kalmakoff of Blaine Lake instructing. This event is sponsored by the Community Initiative Fund grant.
Lakeland library will be hosting a morning workshop April 13 entitled, How to Write an Interesting Family History. Roaslie Jarvis is a member of the Saskatchewan Genealogy Society and will be the workshop co-ordinator. If you are interested, contact Melita Hildebrand, librarian.
Some upcoming events in the community would be the Easter supper April 7, from 5 - 7 p.m. and the annual Easter Sunday church service at the community hall at 10:30 am.
Last Saturday evening we took in the Grand Old Opry in Spiritwood and we had a grand old time. There is a lot of good talent right here at home. To prove that, Mayfair Rec Board is hosting a Nashville Stars Night April 14 at the Mayfair Hall.
And to further prove the point, plan to take in the Carlton Trail Jamboree July 6,7and 8. The tickets are out and the event is planned. Who will be there? Well come see Hey Romeo, High Valley, Charlie Major and Dr. Hook to name only a few!
