Talent and tunes took an old tale and served it with it a twist.
Division II students at Ratushniak Elementary School presented The Rockin' Tale of Snow White by Barbara Lennon and Bill Francoeur Feb. 9 and 10.
All of the old familiar characters including the prince, the seven dwarves, the woodland creatures and the evil queen were part of the fun. The magic mirror shone with personality and the evil queen's ladies in waiting stole the stage with their snappy limericks.
The evil queen's bat assistants brewing up evil recipes were a fun addition to the roster as were the combat hero and his men making the story a little more attractive to the boys in the crowd.
The play had elements of the classic Grimm's tale forgotten by some modern versions and some plot twists not part of the original story. There was a female dance troupe who took to the stage during a couple of the musical numbers and a male chorus that belted out a rap number.
The music offered a variety of styles as the group grinned through the humourous lyrics.
The cast and crew were well-prepared, delivering their lines and moving set pieces on cue. Costume pieces and make-up added to the colour and the enthusiasm of the performers made the stage shine.
Happily ever after wasn't quite as expected but both cast and audience were happy at the final curtain.
