Feb. 3, the students from Marsden Jubilee School, took part in Jump Rope for Heart. The children spent the afternoon participating in different skipping activities. The school raised $2,010.15 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Feb. 14 to 18 was designated Telemiracle Week. The students paid to participate in a variety of events including pyjama and a movie day, hat day, float day and a pancake breakfast. Throughout the week the students had the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for the chance to be the principal or a teacher for a day. The winners were: Taylor Wells (kindergarten); Erin Steuer (Grade 1/2); Brayden Erickson (Grade 3/4); Allie Ostrom (Grade 5/6) and Nash Houk (principal).
The Grade 5/6 class sold Hershey Kisses for a quarter, during the lunch hour, from Feb. 7 to 10. Students could purchase these and designate they be given to another pupil. All the orders were distributed on Valentine's Day. In total, approximately $900 was raised (between community donations and the activities the students took part in) during the week. Last year, the students of Saskatchewan raised $231,405 for Telemiracle.
Students in Grades 1 through 4 attended swimming lessons from Feb. 28 to March 3. Tuesday, March 8 will be the annual ski trip to Table Mountain. Feb. 7, 9 and 16 were skating days.
Plans are underway for a Mom's Pantry fundraiser, which will be held from March 25 until April 11.
Report cards will be distributed March 25 with interviews scheduled for March 29 and 30. The scheduled interviews will be the first day and the second day will be an open house. The students will be able to take their parents around to various stations and show them what we have learned so far this year.
Marsden Jubilee School was the recipient of a random act of kindness. Someone paid the account off for the turkeys they used for the annual Christmas Dinner and Christmas Bingo. This kindness is greatly appreciated!
The Marsden Community Club is no longer active in the community. They had funds remaining in their account and decided to purchase a popcorn machine for the school.
Celebrations were held Feb. 7 for the 100th day of school. Students spent the afternoon at the rink, skating, including doing 100 laps on the ice in their spirit teams. Synergy Credit Union provided a hot dog lunch before they headed to the rink. They also brought the children hot chocolate and a snack while they were skating.
MJS was a sea of red, pink and white for Valentine's Day. Staff and students were invited to wear those colours to celebrate the day. The students ate lunch with a buddy and brought treats to share with one another.
The school community council held a Wii party Jan. 27. Those students, parents and community members who attended, had lots of fun playing games, dancing and enjoying popcorn and juice. Donations were made that will be put towards school programming.
Mrs. Colley started a cooking club in February. It takes place during the noon hour and includes students from kindergarten to Grade 6. Students are informed ahead of time as to what they are going to be cooking, so lunches can be packed accordingly!
