Dec. 5, the Speers United Church hosted an ecumenical church service in Hafford with six churches taking part. They were United Church, Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Gospel Fellowship, Ukrainian Catholic and Ukrainian Orthodox. One member from each church lit a unity candle and read scripture and a prayer. Bill and Adalaide Puto sang songs of worship and praise. Linda Paul told the children's story and many carols were sung. After the service the Speers and District United Church ladies served a tasty lunch.

Dec. 10, the Speers Recreation Centre hosted their annual Christmas party for the children of the community. Many adults and children attended. Sheila and Delbert Miller of the Oasis Care Home brought some of their residents to join in the board games and carol singing. The children decorated sugar cookies with icing and sparkles. The children then put on a nativity pageant and also played a game of musical chairs with Phyllis Cunningham playing the piano and leading the singing with Colleen Wicks. The arrival of Santa caused a stir of excitement and he gave out candy bags. Blair Jackson thanked everyone for coming and to all for making the party a success.

The Speers and District United Church held their annual White Gift Sunday Dec. 11 with the service at 4 p.m. The Sunday School children did their annual Christmas pageant. A potluck supper and program followed the service. The program consisted of carol singing, games and musical numbers. The gifts are collected and sent to Interval House each year. Candy bags were passed out to the children in attendance.

Boxing Day guests of Colleen and Norman Wicks of Speers were Clint and Kerri Thomas, Jasmine, Tamara, Denielle and Margurete Zunich, all of Saskatoon.

Denise and Jorda Thomas of North Battleford and I spent Christmas Day with my son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Colleen Milman, Jacey Milman and friend Brandon.
