While several lucky members of the River's Edge Quilt Guild were enjoying the high seas and warm temperatures of other climes, 18 members met at the Don Ross craft room Jan 6 to review the past month, discuss plans for the first month of the new year and share their most recent projects.
Prior to Christmas, seven comfort quilts were delivered to Interval House for use by the residents there and 10 were donated to the Empty Stocking Fund to be used as gifts. Thank you to those who participated in the making of these quilts.
During January, two guild members have graciously agreed to provide us with instructions for interesting projects. Darlene Hiltz will be giving instruction for a thread catcher project and a sewing machine cover thereby contributing to neat and tidy sewing areas. Arlene Schwab will be helping us to make small pillows for the homeless later in the month, and guild members are urged to consider joining the "sewing bee" to do something for the less fortunate.
The meeting concluded with an inspiring show and tell session during which two items were displayed. A cowboy baby quilt, destined to delight any new mother and infant, featured vibrant colours and an attractive border. Each member present would have been happy to leave the meeting taking with them an intricately decorated tote bag, and many were heard to ask if this project would be taught in the near future.
Remember, "Qquilts connect the past with the present and the future."
