Seniors share crafts and collections

There were 32 out for the Borden Friendship Club's October potluck supper and birthdays, Oct. 26. Blowing out the candles on the cake baked by Lorraine Olinyk was Peter Thiessen, the sole October birthday guy.

For this occasion it was show and tell about your crafts or collections. Florence Neufeld displayed her cross-stitch work and Helen Sutherland and Gladys Wensley their knitting skills. Anne Palmer does card making and scrapbooking. Jean Graham has a collection of shot glasses from around the world, close to 200, and also does crewel cross-stitch, petit point and embroidery. Ed Neufeld brought some of his John Deere toy tractor collection, Daphne Pearce showed off her stamp collection and Velora Neufeld had fridge magnets and photo albums of when she visited Malaysia.

Borden Friendship Club held their annual Halloween tea and bake sale Oct. 28, with 50 out to enjoy pie and coffee or tea and take home some good home baking. A raffle was held of donated prizes and winning a lap afghan donated by Isobel Tracksell was Marcelle Desrosiers. An embroidered luncheon cloth and napkins went to Sheri Sutherland and a hand painted box, with cards and serviettes, donated by Lorraine Olinyk went to John Petrun.

Five people came in costume and winning prizes were Rhonda and Sadie Funk along with two children, Brooke and Connor. Eighteen door prizes brought by members were handed out to those in attendance, all from Borden.

In junior volleyball this past week the junior girls lost out in their first round Oct. 25. The junior boys beat Osler at Borden Oct. 27 and won over Langham Oct. 25. The conference finals were held in Langham Oct. 29 with five teams competing - host team Langham, Clavet, Borden, Waldheim and Dalmeny. The Borden boys reached the semifinals but were beaten by the Waldheim team and Clavet beat Dalmeny to also advance to finals.

The senior girls play conference volleyball finals Nov. 5 in Borden with six teams competing - Borden, Hafford, Medstead, Maymont, Canwood and Debden. The senior boys play in Perdue Nov. 12 against Hafford, Landis and Perdue.

Voting was held for the RM of Great Bend No. 405, Oct 26, for the position of councillor in Division 2. Out of 57 votes cast Scott Sutherland received 37 and incumbent Archie Wainwright 19 votes. Thank you goes to Archie for his 38 years as Division 2 councillor.

Don't forget Remembrance Day services Nov. 11. Borden Lions host the Borden service in the community centre at 10:45 a.m. with Gayle Wensley presiding. The Royal Purple host the Radisson service in the hall at 10:45 a.m. with Pastor Bornhuse presiding. Lunch will be served at both services.

Lorraine Olinyk and Vera Nelson attended a TOPS Incentive Day held in Vanscoy, Oct. 29. The day featured a Halloween theme, a workshop led by Debbie Bergen, area captain for Area No. 5, games, singing, exercise, time of sharing and fellowship. A costume parade was held and there were prizes for everyone as well as raffle prizes and a $50 draw. Yours truly was lucky to win a raffle prize of a PartyLite gingerbread cottage.
