Seniors gather to test wit and might

With the weekend almost over I am finally sitting down to write as I should have done a couple of days ago.

With the weekend almost over I am finally sitting down to write as I should have done a couple of days ago. It seems I always have something else on the go or something I need to get out of the way that is pressing thus I end up on Sunday night deciding how and what I am going to include in my ramblings.

In a small place like Meota sometimes there are weeks in which things are pretty quiet and there is not always a lot of real news to write. This week though, there was an event going on here that I feel would be of interest. The only problem that it presented to me was, that while it was going on I had a number of other commitments in the wind that pulled me away. I could not cover the story in the way I would have liked to.

The event was tied to the seniors' games that are a regular event across this province. Every other year there are the official games, but on the in between years there are sessions that were described to me as practice or training sessions, and that is what this year entailed. In these games, seniors get together to pit their skills at different card games, golf and other activities. All are activities that will test both mind and body as well as the venues 小蓝视频 great places to make friends and socialize with people with similar interests from farther afield.

This week there were events 小蓝视频 held at both the Meota Golf Club and at the Do Drop In and, from what I am told, the day was successful. I thus must apologize to the organizers for my inability to make it there that day to get some pictures and more in depth information from them.

One of the things that kept me occupied this week was the chance to spend a large bulk of time with one of our granddaughters. Dallas is the only grandchild who lives close to us as she and her parents live in North Battleford. Even though she lives nearby sometimes, with busy schedules, we don't spend the amount of time that we would like. This week Paul, her dad, had another appointment in Prince Albert where it was advantageous for me to go along as an extra driver since he was not feeling the best after his procedures. Thus, we took Dallas along and while he was 小蓝视频 worked on, Gramps took the time to spend watching this eighteen-month-old absorb her environment. We spent time visiting a pet shop and at a playground and, if I was to be honest, I am sure that it was more entertaining for me that it was for her. We had a great few hours together in which I will assure you she was the one who won the battle by wearing me out the most. What a great feeling.

Then, I was spoiled even more when her mom and dad came out here to Meota camping where Gramps again took the chance to spend time at the playground helping this little soul play. I have a sign on the fridge that states "If you haven't grown up by the time you are fifty you don't have to" and boy am I glad I have made it. I sure hope my editor will forgive me too for putting my priority on family rather than spending my time with my camera in hand.

This weekend here in Meota was sort of a lazy slow time. I was totally surprised when I put a boat in the water Saturday and found ours was the only watercraft on the lake. Maybe it is just my memory but it seems to me that at this time in other years there would at least have been a few other boats or personal watercraft moving around. For some reason that was not the case and we had the whole lake to ourselves.

Even so there were a few groups in the campground and some activity around the beach area, but with the weather 小蓝视频 a little on the cool side the numbers were also lower than usual. I guess there is a mixed blessing in this, making it a quiet weekend for those who were here.

A couple of big moves happened this past week with both the village office and the library making their trek to their new digs. The library will be holding a grand opening of their new facilities June 18 at two p.m. There will be both a book sale and a bake sale that day to help raise funds for new carpeting so donations of baking and books would be greatly appreciated. As of yet I don't know of any plans for anything official about the new village office but stop in and say hello and see the facility anyway.
