Herb and Pauline Muskego and family of the Onion Lake Reserve organized a run in 2005, in memory of their daughter, Daleen Bosse Muskego, and on behalf of all aboriginal women who have gone missing or been murdered over the years. The run is an annual event and starts at Martensville. The finish line, 350 kilometres later, is at the Onion Lake Reserve.
Daleen went missing in 2004 and it was four years later that her charred remains were found a few kilometres from Martensville. Herb and Pauline Muskego received a painting of their daughter, Daleen, from the Saskatoon Police Service, July 11. The painting was created as part of an exhibit, on display at the Wanuskewin Heritage Park, intended to raise awareness for missing and murdered Metis and aboriginal women.
The runners and all others involved stopped at St. John's Anglican Church in Borden, July 12, to have their luncheon meal before travelling on to Maymont and then stopping for the night at the Radisson Campgrounds.
Radisson holds its 15th annual Show and Shine along Main Street, Sunday, July 24, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There are 22 trophy categories for vintage cars, trucks, tractors, snowmobiles and motorcycles, with no entry fees. For more information, contact Kirk, 826-2203, or Norm, 827-2117.
The 90th annual Radisson and District Agricultural Fair will be held August 5-7. Entries are to be in by 11 a.m. at the curling rink August 5 so the judging can take place that afternoon. The next day, the slo-pitch tourney starts at 8 a.m., exhibits are open by 9 a.m., the parade along Main St. starts at 11 a.m., and the gymkhana horse events begin at noon. In a tent south of the curling rink, eight performers will entertain at the musical jamboree, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. In the curling rink, Beeper the Clown will amuse the kids from 12:30-3:30 p.m. The mini-tractor pull is at 3:30 p.m. and supper will be available in the curling rink by 5 p.m. The Royal Purple will have an ice cream booth in the curling rink, both Saturday and Sunday, from noon until 7 p.m. The Radisson Fire Dept. is sponsoring the dance to be held in the Communiplex, starting at 9:30 p.m.
Sunday, August 7, the ball games will start at 8 a.m., the pancake breakfast will run from 8-11 p.m., the light horse show starts at 9:30 a.m., the musical jamboree with nine performers begins at 1 p.m. and the vintage tractor pull will start at 1 p.m. Supper will be available at 4 p.m. Exhibits may be removed after 4 p.m. Tickets for the beef or pork suppers Saturday and Sunday need to be pre-ordered at least 3 days before the event; call 827-2170 or 827-7649.
