I guess that old adage, "Be careful what you ask for" has some merit. Last week we were bemoaning the fact we had been left out of the rain and here a week later we are reporting an accumulation of almost four inches here in the village. Amounts vary from area to area with the area east of Rabbit Lake getting more and further west getting more as well. I can see the lake rising already!
June 15 the Rabbit Lake Senior Sunrise Circle hosted the last potluck for the season. Twenty-six people gathered for a great supper and Earl and Shirley Jones gave an interesting talk on their experience in Cairo during the riots. We do in fact live in a great country and have a lot to be thankful for.
Get well wishes go out to Pete Penner who is recovering from knee replacement surgery. We all hope you are up and going soon to keep ahead of those dandelions!
It was great to see Al and Gail Freethy back to visiting for a few days in the community. Both Al and Gail taught school here for many years and have retired to Saskatoon.
June 17, several friends and neighbours gathered at the community hall for a supper put on by Cameron and Christine MacDonald in honour of their son Brodie's Grade 12 graduation. Rain pelted down hard most of the evening and then at 11:08 p.m. the power went out adding new challenges to the party. Power was restored at about 7:30 a.m. Saturday. Congratulations to Brodie MacDonald and to Sonia Segal who are both graduating-Brodie from Spiritwood and Sonia from Medstead.
June 18 was yet another big party at the community hall. About 125 people gathered with the McLennan family to celebrate Isabelle McLennan's 80th birthday. The evening was ably hosted by Cyndy Miller. Ewald Miller, Marian Miller, Vic Ricketts and Dave Plummer provided some dance music and the supper was provided by Jeanette Krilow, Jennifer Lamb, Cyndy Miller and Gord Pochalko. Isabelle's family, Heather (Victoria), Kelly (Kelowna), Holly (Camrose) and Kimber (Saskatoon) along with their families were all home for the occasion. In addition Isabelle's brother Richard (Gwen) Zweifel from Paradise Hill and some of their family joined the party. Fred and Marion Ballachay from Cold Lake and Willie and Judy Kuffert from Chitek, former community members, were also in attendance.
Remember Canada Day is just around the corner and once again there will be Canada Day in the Park at Meeting Lake Regional Park. Take a little time to celebrate the great country we live in and the freedoms we often take for granted.
