Our condolences to the Strasser family on the death of a husband, father and grandfather, Art Strasser.
Arthur was born on June 2, 1927 and grew up in the Biggar area. He was one of a family of eight children. His lifetime work was for Sask. Wheat Pool for 21 years and after retirement he spent some years working for Husky Oil. For a number of years, Art and his family lived in Lashburn and Waseca. He and his wife, Evelyn, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2011. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Marie and Cindy.
Art was a great family man, happiest when spending time with them. Art and Evelyn spent summers at Loon Lake with their family. There they enjoyed boating, fishing and all the natural beauty found at the lake.
Art passed away Dec. 21 after some time in the hospital. Funeral services for him were conducted from St. Lucia's Roman Catholic Church, Lashburn Jan 3. Internment was in the Lashburn cemetery.
Christmas was a happy time as was New Year's, with family parties a big part of the holiday season. Arlee Lumgair travelled to Meadow Lake to spend time with some of her family there.
Allan and Eleanor Hinde spent Christmas with their son Lyle and his wife Marg and other family members in Lloydminster.
Bobbi and Kelly Doepker and some of their family travelled to Annaheim to spend Christmas with Kelly's parents, Bea and Allan Doepker.
The band, Yellowhead Ramblers, also had a busy holiday time playing at Pine Island Lodge in Maidstone, the festival of trees in North Battleford and at the North Battleford seniors' centre.
Eleanor and Jugg Pegg and their entire family spent several days in Cuba, arriving home Dec. 23. They had a wonderful time, enjoying the beautiful beaches, visiting markets and enjoying the people, who were friendly. They learned a lot about life in Cuba, a country where all education and health care is free and people pay no taxes. To the Pegg family, Cuba was a wonderful place to holiday and they would like to go back again.
It is great to see people skating in the Waseca Rink. A natural ice rink requires a tremendous amount of work to have it ready to use. Many people spent numerous hours flooding and doing all the work leading up to the flooding.
The rink itself needed extensive work done on it before ice could be put in. Fortunately there were a goodly number of willing volunteers working to get the job done.
Did you know the highest elevation in Canada is 5,951 metres and the lowest is sea level? The area of Quebec is twice the size of the state of Texas.
