Christchurch, New Zealand has had another devastating earthquake with a number of casualties this time and most of the buildings downtown destroyed. Two suburbs near the harbour have 80 per cent of the homes destroyed or rendered unliveable. My son Bryan Pidwerbesky and his wife Helen and my grandson Nikolai live in Christchurch, but I was able to phone him six hours after the quake. They are all fine and so are Helen's parents and sisters. This earthquake had a magnitude of 6.3 but was only eight kilometres under the surface and only 10 kilometres from Christchurch. Six hours after the quake they had had 22 aftershocks and some hit four on the scale. They have no power, no phones and the Christchurch hospital was damaged. Bryan has seen helicopters coming and going, probably airlifting patients to other hospitals in area.
