The Old Mill Players cast and crew of Mayfair drama club performed Those Crazy Ladies in the House on the Corner Feb. 18 and 19 and Feb. 25 and 26 in the Mayfair Community Hall. This marked the 12th year of performances by the group.
The two act comedy by Pat Cook consisted of nine local actors and was directed by Sheila Bachelder.
The scene was set in the house where three geriatric widowed sisters resided. Each one with her own issues. Dora played by Norma Sherman was the bossy one, Maggie played by Lorelee Powers was becoming absent-minded and Lydia played by Cheryl Bulmer was the one who kept the household running. Adding to the comedy was the fact that each of the sisters enjoyed talking and often all three at the same time. Their wit and sharp tongues added to the humour and each character's personalities as they kept the audience laughing.
Despite their differences, the sisters shared a closeness which came out when Dr. Lomax suggests a boarder for the women. The excitement continues to build when it is noted that the boarder is a nurse with a secret; then it is revealed that Lydia's daughter plans on moving the three sisters into a retirement home and turning the home into a bed and breakfast. The household turns into chaos.
The cast had a natural ability of drawing the audience into the play with many common scenarios.
Prairie Spirits, consisted of Muriel Kotelko and Kolin Bulmer, performed toe-tapping musical interludes allowing the crew to change props and the cast to move into position.
Lights and sound accented the performance and were done by Gordon Sherman and Jaycee Bulmer, prompter was Denise Greyeyes, stagehand was Michelle Toews and the preshow slide show was done by Eddy Thomas and Rhonda Prescesky. There were also many behind-the-scenes volunteers that contribute to the ongoing successful performances annually. The audience can credit the Mayfair recreational board for the catered meal.
Those Crazy Ladies in the House on the Corner ran for two weekends in Mayfair as dinner theatre performances.
The Old Mill Players continue to give back to the community. This year the Old Mill Players made cash donations to various senior citizens' centres throughout the Thickwood Hills area. Receiving cash donations were senior centres in Marcelin, Shell Lake, Leask, Blaine Lake, Speers, Hafford, Spiritwood, Glaslyn, Rabbit Lake, Maymont and the following places in North Battleford: Pioneer Centre, Hillcrest Centre and Slava Centre.
