There was a flurry of excitement in Neilburg Jan. 11 due to a small fire at D & G Polyproducts. As a precautionary measure, the children from the nearby Neilburg Composite School were evacuated to the Neilburg Community Hall for about an hour, while the volunteer firefighters extinguished the blaze. Due to the quick response of the fire crew, the damage was kept to a minimum and soon the students were back to class and the employees at D & G were back to work.
The student representative council at Neilburg Composite School have been very busy this term. According to Mrs. Kerr-Goodfellow, they just finished hosting the 12 days of Christmas. The SRC invited the local seniors to join them for their Christmas lunch. It was great fun. Thank you to everyone that participated in the activities. A huge, belated thank you to Adrian and Wendy Lindsay for their donation of a propane barbecue. Another thank you must be extended to Jackie Goodall for donating the gingerbread house.
The Grade 10 drama class performed their final play Jan. 16 in the gym. The play, SANCS, was written by the class and was a spoof on the high school staff.
Students in Grade 8 and 12 will soon be receiving booster shots for tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (or whooping cough). Be sure your immunizations are up to date. Flu vaccine is still available, free of charge, by contacting the local public health nurse.
Students in Grades 4 through 12 will be on the annual ski trip to Table Mountain Feb. 2.

The youth group at the Church of God in Christ Mennonite held a hymn sing Jan. 6. They invited the local seniors to attend to listen to their musical selections and then enjoy refreshments with muffins and cheese.
The Marsden/Neilburg United Church held a traditional Christmas Eve service, led by Tom Poppleton. He encouraged those in attendance to lay down their burdens so that their hands would be free to pick up and cradle the Christ Child.
The Neilburg Recreation Board held a Christmas tree draw in December. Fifteen winners received $15 prizes: Monica Newport, Bob and Janice Graham, Daryl Goodfellow (twice), Julie Bowes, Shannon Lane, Marty Bowes, Brian McIntyre, Ryley Olchowecki, Pat Gibbons, Richard and Arlene McAleer, Joanne Loy, John McGarry, Jan Trimble and Lloyd Gordon. Three winners received $25: Brenda Gross, Jackie Hall and Brent and Janet Black. Richard Chibri was the $50 winner and Monica Wakefield was the last to have her name drawn from the pot, taking home a cheque for $150. Watch for the next holiday draw.
The women's ministries team from Manitou Evangelical Free Church held the "Second Great Stocking Exchange" Nov. 30, in the Education Wing. Faith Graham was the emcee for the evening which consisted of games, singing by Bonnie Loewen (owner of Verses Christian bookstore in Lloydminster) and an encouraging devotional by Chanda Randell, who is from Chauvin and married to the pastor of Chauvin Gospel Centre. Each lady in attendance was asked to bring a Christmas stocking filled with goodies, which were traded at the close of the evening.
