Eva Schwaiger hosted a five-day Lawn Club, at her home, Aug. 22 through 26. Every morning a large group of children (aged five to 13) came to listen to Bible stories, sing, participate in contests and memorize scripture. These clubs are affiliated with Child Evangelism Fellowship, and the teacher came from Regina for the week. There was a similar lawn club in Marsden that week at the Marj Nattress residence.

Mr. Wade Worman reports that the Grade 12 students from Neilburg Composite School had an interesting field trip last month. They left Sept. 12 for a three-day canoe trip down the Waterhen River. Despite below freezing temperatures at night, the students all had a wonderful time. Some of the highlights included watching canoes tip (as long as it was not your own), eating wonderful meals (chili, focaccia bread and apple crumble), learning survival skills and bonding with peers. The Grade 11 students will be doing a similar trip in the spring.

Oct. 3 was a PLC (professional learning communities) day for teachers so all students from NCS enjoyed an extra day at home. Picture day has been re-scheduled for Oc. 19.

The Neilburg Veterinary Clinic has reopened for the fall and winter season with clinics held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The vet clinic advises that there has been a parvo outbreak in the local dog populations -- with confirmed cases in town and the outlying rural area. Parvo is not treatable as it is caused by a virus; thus the vet can only offer supportive care. Dogs showing signs of lethargy, especially if combined with vomiting and diarrhea, may have the disease. It is highly contagious among dogs and can be fatal. There is no risk to people or to other species of animals. If your dog has not been vaccinated, it would be advisable to do so as soon as possible.

Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of David Weiszhaar who passed away April 23, in Lloydminster, at the age of 91.
