MAIDSTONE — Congratulations to Maidstone High School athletes who were selected for the Lloydminster Rustlers volleyball gold teams: 14U Mickey Blyth, 17U Sadie Robb and 18U Jade McIntosh, Gabe Blyth and Ben Dutton.
The senior boys’ volleyball conference was held in Paradise Hill last weekend with Lashburn, Maidstone, Neilburg, Paradise Hill and Turtleford participating. Lashburn won gold and Maidstone took silver. They advance to regionals this weekend with Lashburn hosting at Lloydminster Comprehensive High School.
The senior girls’ volleyball team battled hard at regionals in Rosthern, ending up in the top four. Sadly, they didn’t advance but proudly represented both their school and community.
Maidstone senior Jets started the season with a hard-fought 2-1 win against Perdue Pirates. Come out on Friday, Nov. 18 when they host the Battlefords Beaver Blues.
The Senior Citizens’ Drop In Centre bi-monthly meeting was held Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. (rebooked from Oct. 28) with six members present. The usual potluck lunch was cancelled due to illnesses and prior commitments. The current financial statement was reviewed, and reports were given on games and the Halloween handouts hosted by Maidstone Museum. Other items were tabled.
Maidstone Ice Arena remaining public skating times for this month are Nov. 20 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and Nov. 27 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Public skating fees are $65/family/year or $5/individual/use. The online auction to raise funds for Jordi Johner’s three children is on now at with 100 per cent of the money raised to go towards the children’s education, sports and other needs. The auction continues until 8 p.m. MST Thursday, Nov. 24. Anyone who prefers to make a direct donation can deposit at Synergy Credit Union or e-transfer to [email protected].
The Kin Club, Maidstone is selling AG Foods coupon books at $10 each. Many of the items in the book will be on sale before Dec. 31 and coupons can be used with the sale price. With over $50 in savings, you can also combine with minor hockey grocery vouchers to save a bundle. Books are available from Kin Club members or at Synergy and AG Foods. The Kin Club does so much in our community, this is a great way to show our support.
Maidstone Community Health Committee’s Festival of Trees is just around the corner and it’s always a beautiful sight to behold. Anyone who still has an item to donate, please contact Megan Rhinehart, Victoria Bailey, Angie Perkins or Nicole Winterholt. The event is at the Legion Hall from Nov. 22 to 26 (Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday noon to 8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.). All money raised goes to comfort items for long-term care patients.
