Charnele Jellsion, Shirraya Tuscherer and Kelsey Wildeman, who played with the Kindersley Edge Realty Royals at the Midget B Western Canadian Softball Championships in Medicine Hat, enjoyed much success on the weekend. The team won their first three games decisively, one 小蓝视频 a mercy in three innings. Charnele was named player of the game in two of the tournament games. The girls got through round robin play with a third place rating but had a tough game in the morning quarter-final game and the loss ended their season. Congratulations on a fourth place finish in Western Canada.
Summer Fun centre is winding down. Thank you to Jessica, Chantal and Becky for giving these kids a wonderful summer!
The swimming pool boiler has been replaced - yeah! Next week will be the last week for the pool for the season, as the final day is August 21, so be sure to take in either afternoon or evening public swimming (or both), or aquasizes over lunch. Moonlight swims are offered Monday and Wednesday from 10 - 11 p.m. for ages 12 and up.
The Communities in Bloom committee members are now sitting anxiously awaiting the results of their entry in this completion. They were extremely pleased with the attendance and support at the community picnic and related various activities July 28th. They hope to hear Unity's ranking in this national competition in early September.
Unity Golf Club is in full swing with ladies' night Tuesday evenings and men's night Wednesdays. They will host a senior tournament August 18, followed by a four-man scramble August 20.
Heartland Health will host an autism fundraiser/awareness event at the Unity Golf Club August 21. There are many aspects to this fundraiser, including pre-selling whiffle balls to anyone. The object is to pick a lucky whiffle ball that will be dropped on the course near a predetermined hole; the closest ball to the pin will win half the pot. Make sure to call the golf club if you want information on any of these activities, or just to book a tee time.
Unity Little Theatre is having a meeting August 24 to plan for a new production, to be performed in November and directed by Roxanne Mamer. Auditions will be happening soon. If you are interested, call Wanda at 228-4586.
Also fast approaching is the annual Terry Fox Run. This event has waned in popularity over the years, largely due to the big relay events which were held in town. The committee is hoping their restyling of the event will bring back some regulars and entice some newcomers.
This year the route has changed, starting and finishing at the Anglican Church Hall. There will be goodies, draws and merchandise. They are asking participants to start getting pledges now or to bring a toonie and join their family and friends on a memorial walk to remember this brave man, and to enjoy our beautiful town. All proceeds raised go towards cancer research.
After seeing the huge memorial in Thunder Bay, Ont., this summer, built to honour his heroic endeavours, and having the privilege of driving the Terry Fox Memorial Highway in Ontario, I was reminded of the remarkable sacrifice and determination this young man had to gain awareness and funds for cancer research. Won't you consider this as an activity for you and your family this fall?
Northwest Terminal, in conjunction with Unity Minor Hockey, is holding their first 3-on-3 hockey tournament. Players register as individuals. For a registration fee of $50, each player will get a jersey, ice time and a windup. You can register at the Town of Unity or Ultra Sports.
Coffee row folks are enjoying all the activity this community has offered so far this year. They are discussing the turning of the crops, the unfortunate weather damage some farmers had to endure and the optimism that always precedes the harvest season.
