The junior volleyball teams took part in conference playoffs. Both teams finished second so had to play off. The boys lost to Medstead so did not get to go to regionals. The girls played off against John Paul II and lost out in a close match. Both teams had their windup after school Nov. 15. They took part in some fun games of volleyball and then enjoyed a pizza supper.
The senior boys hosted a four-team tournament Nov. 4. This tournament also included a hardest hitter competition. The boys played well but lost out to Neilburg in the semifinal. They also hosted conference playdowns Nov. 12. The boys played well, placing first. They will now take part in the regional playoff to be held in Maymont Nov. 19.
The senior girls attended the 1A Conference playoffs in Borden Nov. 4. They had a great day and finished first, so were able to take part in the 1A regional playoffs held in Saskatoon Nov. 12. The girls played well but will not advance to provincial playoffs.
A book fair was held during the week of Nov. 7 - 10. Thanks to all of the students, staff and parents for making it very successful. Congratulations to Kimberly Wawryk for winning $25 dollars in free books for herself, and $25 in free books for her Grade 3/4 class as well.
A Remembrance Day service was held in the school gymnasium Nov. 10. Mrs. Brehon welcomed everyone and then everyone viewed The Eulogy to the Unknown Soldier, a CBC documentary. The school choir sang Heart to Heart, and then a journal writing presentation, written by Darby Milman, was viewed. Kelsie Fouhy, one of the SRC presidents, read In Flanders Fields. The Last Post and one minute of silence was held, followed by the laying of wreaths by students and community members.
Wreath bearers were: Miranda Deline and Kelsie Fouhy on behalf of Maymont Central School SRC; Mrs. Farnell, retired air cadet officer on behalf of all veterans; Tom Caldwell and Mel Deagnon on behalf of the senior citizens; Darby Milman on behalf of the Lakeland Library, Maymont branch; Dale Beaudoin, in memory of Jim Crozier and Ernest Beaudoin, who was killed in Germany; Patience Brown in memory of Reg Gillatt; David Gillatt, in memory of Uncle William and Grandfather Frank Gillatt; Kay Greenslade and Ashton Brogden, Warrant Officer, in memory of her cousin, Walter (Sonny) Andrew and Elmer Andrew and Hector Andrew; Brady Ferris in memory of his great-grandfather Robert Neill, who served in the First and Second World Wars; Alan Rogers in memory of Howard Rogers; Judy Sherman in memory of Harvey Johnson, prisoner of war for two years in the Second World War and who passed away in April, 2001; Derek Clayton on behalf of the RM of Mayfield; Chad Bernier on behalf of the Village of Maymont; Galyn Precesky in memory of Bob Fullerton's father-in-law Jack Boucher who was in the Boer and First World Wars; Kelsey Wood in memory of Bob Fullerton's brother John Fullerton who was in the navy; Kaitlyn Dubyk in memory of relatives of the Miller family; Kelly Langley in memory of grandfather William Langley, flying officer; Beau Garrett on behalf of the Radisson Royal Purple; and Amy Tanner on behalf of all men and woman currently in service here and abroad.
Students then lit candles to " shine a light for peace." After the singing of God Save The Queen, everyone was invited to take part in the chili sale hosted by the Grade 12 class.
