"I've never heard of a jewelry swap party," the first guest announced enthusiastically, while entering the door. This comment was made by most of the other ladies during the afternoon of fun at our home in Sonningdale April 14.
"I guess not," I replied, "it came from my mind." Sometimes it seems there is more going on inside our minds than we realize. Not that it was a particularly ingenious idea, but it made me think. As Hercule Poirot on BBC TV would say, "We need to exercise those little grey cells."
It was a fun time, especially put on for the ladies of our church, Sonningdale Pentecostal, who had worked so laboriously at getting the house habitable for us before we moved in. Community ladies were invited too and in all we had 12 ladies and three young people attend. This was perfect for the size of our house.
All through the afternoon the ladies were busily looking through the jewelry, which had something to suit all ages.
About half way through, we stopped and I tried to get people away from the jewelry long enough for an "ice breaker." Of course that was really unnecessary, as everyone was mingling and having fun. However, I asked whoever felt inclined to share a funny story that had happened to them, embarrassing or otherwise. This proved to be hilarious and the most funny was awarded a small prize.
The rest of the afternoon was spent visiting and munching on things that were not really good for some of us. Of course there were a few ladies who were "skinny Minnies" who it probably wouldn't affect. Doesn't it just make you sick? Seriously though, all the ladies looked good to me.
I understand everyone enjoyed the afternoon, and as is the case of most ladies, the best time was visiting and laughter. We all need lots of that, don't we? Thank you all for coming to help us enjoy a good time.
Many thanks to my friend who helped me organize it and best of all, helped me clean up afterwards. Where would we be without friends.
The remainder of the jewelry was donated. Necklaces and brooches were given to ladies in the Diamond Lodge seniors' home in Biggar and the earrings and other baubles were donated to the Salvation Army Thrift Store.
