Kari and Mary Carpentier drove to Thompson, Man., where they boarded the train, traveling over taiga and tundra to the seaport of Churchill, Man. on Hudson Bay. They visited Koral Carpentier who is working there. They enjoyed whale watching, visiting friends and touring the town and area. The rock the girls are sitting on is called an inukshuk.
The inukshuk and the inunnguaq are traditional stone figures found in the Canadian Arctic landscape that guide Inuit on the land, and mark sacred and special places. The arrangement of stones in the inunnguaq more closely resembles a human figure.
A very happy and upbeat celebration in memory of Bill Sloan was held with family and friends at the Turtle Lake Mission, Aug. 2. The theme was going home to heaven. Family from Alberta and British Columbia joined in the celebration. Born in Maymont and growing up in Maymont, Bill passed away in Nanaimo, B.C. Interment was Aug. 30.
