Bingo was played at the Maidstone Drop In Centre Jan. 26 with Margaret MacEachern and Jean Hartman calling. Lunch was provided by Denise Newton. The loonie pot was won and shared by Dorothy Kissick and Denise Newton.
Games of choice were played Jan. 31. One table of 500 and one table of cribbage were organized. A draw made for high was won by Dorothy Schwartz and low was Margaret MacEachern. Lunch was provided by Jean Hartman assisted by Lil McMillan.
A new water purifying system and water softener have been installed at the centre. This will make it much handier to fill the coffee urns, instead of pumping water from a bottle as we have done up to now. Cash savings from not having to buy bottled water will soon pay for this handy new system. Two raised toilets have also been installed in the bathrooms. All these improvements are possible from matching grants and money raised by local seniors.
Bingo was played Feb. 2 with a good turnout. Lunch was provided by Margaret MacEachern and Theresa Kennedy. Jean Hartman and Margaret MacEachern did the calling.
The monthly meeting was held Feb. 4 with a better turnout than usual. The money made from card afternoons, bingo and donations for the month of February will be donated to Telemiracle. Feb. 18 is the January-February birthday potluck supper. The next monthly meeting will be Thursday, March 3 as Friday is World day of Prayer to be hosted at the Anglican Church organized by the Lutheran ladies.
March 16, the seniors will have a stew and biscuit luncheon at noon followed by bingo.
March 23 the library board will be at the centre at 7 p.m., hosting entertainment by the school junior choir. Refreshments will follow. There is no charge and everyone is welcome.
A guest, Judith Holmberg, made a request to use the centre for a musical walk during the winter months. The purpose is to get people of all ages walking in the centre when weather and footing makes it difficult to walk outdoors. She and her husband have put together a musical tape suitable for walking to. Participants can walk at their own speed for as long or short a time as they are comfortable with. People of all ages, including children are welcome to take part on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. and Thursdays at 7 p.m.
A vote was taken and passed giving Judith permisson to commence with this healthy exercise.
The card game 500 was played Feb. 7. Lunch was provided by Hettie Ricahrdson. Draws were made for two prizes. Margaret MacEchern won one and Eva Inkster won the second draw.
