We are all saddened to her of the passing of Leonide Bulani, 86 years old, Nov 27. He was a resident of North Battleford, but formerly from Lizard Lake where he farmed and raised the family who remain on the farm. He was employed as an RM of Glenside road patrol operator for a few years.
Hunting season for white-tailed and mule deer, open at different times this past fall, has now ended. In our area we don't see as many of the white-tailed deer and what we do see are does and fawns. The big bucks seem to have gone elsewhere. Moose and elk are plentiful and some are 小蓝视频 shot and just left in the fields to waste.
There has not been much snow about to keep the hunters out of the fields and pastures and they are able to travel all the back roads, with just enough snow to track the deer.
Big buck head scoring and a chili on a bun supper were held in Sonningdale Hall Dec. 11. No results to report so far, but I'm sure it will be well attended with lots of prize antlers to score. There was quite a few hunters about this season.
Fiftieth wedding anniversary greetings go out to my sister, Norma, and her husband Paul Kowerchuk of North Battleford. Due to family illness there was no celebration for the happy couple. A celebration may be held at a later date.
We are now well into the end of autumn and past the shortest day of the year. We will now be gaining a few minutes each day. Our temperatures have been close to normal for this time of year.
Cattle have still been able to feed in the fields with some swath grazing going on. Feeding in the corrals has started for some cattle. Calves have been weaned and some taken to market.
The Christmas tree is the centre of our festivities. Topped with a star or an angle and all the glittering lights and ornaments, it is part of the beauty and meaning of the Christmas season. And today the fir tree is one of our loveliest symbols of Christmas.
At this time my husband, Stanley, and I would like to express merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year to all the News-Optimist staff, country correspondents, columnists and all the readers of our local newspaper.
