Historic plaque missing from river bank

Sunday's rain was welcome since we have had very little moisture from winter snowfalls. We have been enjoying higher temperatures and sunny days for the most part.

Recently it was discovered that the plaque which was on the Pine Island Monument located on the hill overlooking Pine Island and the North Saskatchewan River had been removed. When this was done and by whom is the question!

The monument was established with an unveiling 小蓝视频 on Sept. 21, 1991. The very large plaque outlined the history of Pine Island's relationship with the fur trade. It was made by a foundry in Winnipeg and was one of the largest in existence.

The late Bill Bullock persuaded the government of the day to get this plaque made. Bill Bullock was too ill to complete the work. Vern Schrank, Mae McConnell and a few others backed by the Maidstone and District Historical Society completed that job. Others including John Davis and Willie Franks did the special job of placing the rock and installing the plaque.

It is unfortunate that sites such as these are vandalized and for what reason? Anyone with any information could phone Christine Pike who was also involved in having the monument placed there.

Helena Pike accompanied Maurice and Ellen Oddan, Alice and Harold Oddan and Agnes Oddan to Saskatoon Sunday to attend the baptism of Carter William Mark Oddan, infant son of Tracy and Mark Oddan. The families gathered at the home of Tracy and Mark Oddan following the baptism for further festivities.

Christine Pike visited her sister, Maureen Bexson at Strome, Alta. on the weekend. Together they attended the farm and ranch show in Edmonton.
