A baby shower honouring baby Sara, daughter of Kim (Sutherland) and Dan Olson of Calgary was held at Waseca Community Centre Sunday afternoon. An interesting part of the event was the presence of four generations of the family: Ruth Sutherland, great-grandmother; Carol Sutherland, grandmother; Kim Olson, mother; and baby Sara. Great-great-grandmother Eva Sutherland was not able to be present due to health reasons.
Congratulations to John Sutherland and Tammy LaRose on the birth of their first grandchild, Skylar, born to Erin and Marsha of Saskatoon. Skylar is also a great-great-grandchild for Eva Sutherland of Pine Island Lodge.
We are pleased to know John Sutherland is home and recovering after a heart operation in University Hospital, Saskatoon. His many friends hope he will soon be back to his usual routine.
Did you know heraldry, which is the formal study and use of coats of arms, flags and badges to establish identity began in 12th century Europe as a way for warrior knights to mark their shields? It soon developed as a system to define a nation, culture, institution or family. In Canada heraldry took root in the late 15th century when Cabot and Cartier raised flags to claim the new land. In 1625, the first Canadian coat of arms was granted to Nova Scotia.
