Family given help at Christmas

Affinity Credit Union, Borden branch, collected non-perishable food for a local needy family before Christmas, and patrons got a chance to enter draws each time a food item was brought in.

Affinity Credit Union, Borden branch, collected non-perishable food for a local needy family before Christmas, and patrons got a chance to enter draws each time a food item was brought in. Winning the prizes were Gloria Derbowka, Jean Hryniuk, Don Dyck and Eleanor Walton.

Proud great-grandparents are Clive and Gladys Wensley of Borden with the birth of Riley Grace, born Dec. 18 to Sara and Chris Wensley of Calgary. New grandparents are Raymond and Shirley Ann Wensley of Calgary. Also Jean Hryniuk has her first great-granddaughter with the birth of Adalie Renee, born Dec. 25 to Kandice Burnett and Aaron Balon of Wakaw. Proud first time grandparents are Tom and Heather Burnett of Martensville.

Ken Tanchak is retiring as administrator of RM of Great Bend No. 405, with Barry Hvidston from Kamsack taking over the duties since Nov. 15. Ken is working with him until end of December. There is a retirement potluck supper and program on Tuesday, Jan. 4 at 6 p.m. in the Borden Community Centre to honour Ken for his many years of service.

Condolences are extended to the family of Olga Krivoshein, who passed away Dec. 13 at the age of 88. The service was held in the Borden Community Centre Dec. 17. Gayle Wensley officiated, pianist was Lorraine Olinyk and the lunch was served by the Borden United Church. Olga and her late husband Euman, lived and farmed at Borden all their lives until health issues forced Olga to move to Saskatoon to be in care facilities, and Euman had moved in later to be near her.
