Rutley said, for the third year in the row, they had received the $5,000 Community Initiative Grant, meaning there was no cost for the families. She said children and parents enjoyed the craft kits they prepared for weekly projects starting in June.
There was one online program earlier when Georgine from Georgine's Greenhouse and Floral Design gave children lessons on growing their own garden and caring for it.
Precautions were taken in preparing the craft kits to ensure they were infection free. Availability was posted on Facebook.
The activities ranged from Canada Day wreaths, solar paper shadows and cloud dough just to mention a few. Pictures of the finished products were emailed to the library and posted on the library Facebook page.
The final project was a Story Book Trail for all ages. Rutley said this was popular. Parents and children picked up the sheets with the clues and a bonus for the kids before they started was receiving a backpack loaded with goodies.
Always in need of funds to carry out various programs, the library decided to initiate a 50/50 raffle.
It has a $2,500 guaranteed prize sponsored by The Rack, Wilkie and Faball. Tickets are available at the library, businesses in town and from members of the board.
An automatic door is a new improvement at the library. The Town of Wilkie, through the Safe Restart Program, installed the device on the main door, which helps parents with buggies, people using walkers and others access the building.
