The current exhibition in the Window Salon of the Chapel Gallery is "Honouring Individual Creation" by local artist, Daphie Pooyak.
Pooyak is a graduate of the Yvonne Yuen School of Design and has been involved in creative arts for most of her life. She is inspired by the works of Henry Beaudry, Marveena Albert, Dorothy Grant, Trevor Kiitookii and the late Dale Auger.
Colour figures prominently in Pooyak's work and she uses it to express feeling. Each piece in this exhibition has a single colour that is so vibrant it grabs the viewer and brings them into the image.
Pooyak values the lessons learned from her mother and grandmothers and follows the First Nations traditions that revolve around land, ceremonies and life. These elements help to inform and define her work.
Pooyak's work is on exhibition until June 30.
