Colleen and Norman Wicks attended a 100th anniversary homecoming July 21 at Goodwater, Sask., for Goodwater, Colgate and the R.M. of Lamond. Norman was born at his grandparents' home in Goodwater and his grandmother was the local telephone operator. Norman then moved north to Nipawin when he was five years old. Goodwater put on a wonderful celebration for a small community. They had a parade, demonstrations and lots of entertainment, Saturday and Sunday breakfasts, and a roast beef supper feeding 860 people. Matt Dominguez and Darian Durant from the Roughriders were there giving autographs to fans. The fireworks display was synchronized to music.
After having such a good time, they travelled to Grenfell on the 24th where they attended the Wicks/Procure family reunion and camped with Norman's cousins, Gordon and Barb Procure from London, Ont. People came from Alberta, B.C., Sask., Man. and Ont. Games were played and there was singing around the campfire as well as lots of visiting. There were about 50 attending the reunion. "Sadly this will be the last reunion as older family members are few and the younger generation are so busy." There was lots of water from the flooding but very few mosquitoes.
Colleen and Norman returned home Aug. 1. Then, Aug. 7, Norm's cousin, Marlene and John Ewart from Calgary visited for a couple of days.
