People always ask, "So what is new in Rabbit Lake?" Well there is always something happening in and around the village if you take the time to look for it.
Earlier in the month some of the class of '64 had a reunion in North Battleford. Six women who had graduated from Rabbit Lake Central High arranged to get together and enjoy a lunch in North Battleford. Although these women have seen each other from time to time, this was the first arranged get-together in the 47 years that have passed. Joan (Allchurch) Jackson, Linda (Heinrichs) Lamb, Shirley ( Jones) Leigh, Joyce (Dawson) Smith and Betty Ann (Aumack) Moffat were able to attend the celebration.
There has been some action around the former H & T seed cleaning plant. Over the last few weeks major cleaning up has occurred and it is looking a lot better.
Speaking of looking good, you should check out the Rabbit Lake Hotel. Joan is back at the visual upgrading. This week she had new marquis lights installed. I think she is having too much fun changing the colours! I know that she will have them on green for the Roughrider games. Actually, Joan, they look great.
A few people are into the holiday spirit. Several homes have Halloween displays and decorations up. Dzialo's cat and Konopelski's spiders take the cake. In the rural area it was great to see the yard display that Marvin and Linda Price created. Great job, people. Now, not to want to appear that we are rushing the season but, I have seen one Christmas tree all decorated and waiting to be lit up.
The Lakeland Library branch sponsored the annual Halloween party at the Rabbit Lake Seniors' Hall, Oct. 26. Twenty-six little ghosts and goblins came and enjoyed the games and activities, and of course the lunch. Thanks to the Library board and to Melita Hildebrand for setting up such activities.
The community hosted a drug and alcohol awareness evening at the Rabbit Lake Seniors' Centre, Oct. 26 Several resource people were in attendance to share their expertise. Community members who attended found the evening informative and enjoyed coffee and doughnuts. The organizer for the evening was Lorraine Scott, who put a lot of work into making the evening a success.
The WhistleStop Coffee Shop hosted the annual supper, Oct. 28, for couples of the area who have been married for 50 or more years. This year Ewald and Marian Miller, Jake and Cecilia Krahn, Duane and Jean Massett and Cornie and Marlene Martens along with their guests were honoured. Congratulations, all of you.
Rose Gill Lodge sponsored the annual Halloween Dance at the Rabbit Lake Community Hall, Oct. 29. This year about 80 people attended, most with outstanding costumes. From all reports the music was great, the food was good and the partying was good too. This is a fundraiser for the Rabbit Lake Rose Gill Lodge.
Sixteen people gathered at the Rabbit Lake Seniors Centre for the monthly potluck supper, Oct. 19.
Upcoming is the Know Your Camera seminar sponsored by the Rabbit Lake Library Nov. 5. Also watch the bulletin boards at the post office and the WhistleStop for upcoming recreation activities beginning in November.
