The centre is decorated for each special occasion of the year and this time it was for Valentine's Day. Next will be St. Patrick's Day.
The January-February potluck birthday supper was held at the centre Feb. 17. Denise Newton, vice-president, gave the blessing and led the singing of Happy Birthday. Seated at the birthday table were Jean Stewart, Tillie Linkert and Ken Adie. Missing were Anne Reeds and Morris Coulthard. Entertainment for the evening was eight-track tapes of Dean Martin. Lunch followed.
Catch the 10 Whist was played Feb. 20. Earning high score was Jean Hartman and Ray Hartman had low score. Hettie Richardson supplied lunch.
We were sorry to hear of the passing of another long time member of our seniors' centre. John Jesse passed away Feb. 18 at the age of 96. John was an active member of the centre for many years and was instrumental on the building committee when plans were drawn up for the new centre. He built and donated a portable stand for the carpet bowling carpets and two flower planters that are still used outside in the summer. He was an avid pool, shuffleboard, horseshoe and carpet bowling player. He retired to a senior complex in Lloydminster but still enjoyed returning to the occasional social function at the centre.
A memorial service will be held at the Maidstone United Church on Friday, March 2 at 11 a.m. MST.
