Former Maymont residents and recording artists Saskia and Darrel have included their former community in their most recent tour promoting their new CD, Songbirds.
The entertainment duo will perform at Maymont Memorial Hall Saturday, Nov. 12
The CD release concert will be held Thursday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. Partial proceeds from the concert will remain in the community.
Although they call Saskatchewan home, these folk/roots song-crafters live mostly on the road, performing to an ever-widening fan base. They are skilled and versatile musicians; considered by their peers to be in the "journeyman" class of their trade.
Saskia hails from The Netherlands and Darrel was born on the Great Plains, so prairie culture runs through their veins. Their years spent in Saskatchewan are a huge creative landscape for their songwriting. They write about Canadian life and culture, telling stories of Louis Riel, war brides, prairie towns, voyageurs and rodeos, all set to intriguing melodies and backed by some of Canada's finest musicians.
They have toured extensively with Gary Fjellgaard for the last 10 years, performed with Valdy, opened up for Roy Forbes, Emerson Drive and The Stampeders, and have notables like Daniel Powter, Darby Mills, Steve Dawson, Ken Hamm, Bill Hicks, and Nolan Murray (Tiller's Folly) appearing on their nine CDs.?
They were awarded Top Folk /Roots Album in Holland, nominated for Artist, Album, and Male Vocalist of the year , received Top 5 People's Choice awards and have enjoyed many years airplay on CBC and the Top Indie folk/roots charts throughout Canada and Europe.
They are currently touring to support their latest and just off the press CD, Songbirds, and are planning their fourth trip across Canada. They also have a third European tour booked in Holland, Germany, Belgium and Switzerland.
Saskia and Darrel say they are so happy and grateful to be able to make a few concert stops at home in Saskatchewan so they can spend time with their friends and family. They will also perform at Leipzig Serenity Retreat with Gary Fjellgaard Oct. 5.
