Boards maintain recreational facilities

A discussion group met at the Waseca Community Centre on the evening of Sept. 29. The group, who call themselves Friends of Waseca, had advertised the meeting, but were not prepared to chair a meeting, so a discussion was held mostly in relation to the Waseca rink. A few people volunteered to be on the rink board, but these are usually nominated at the joint annual meeting of the Waseca Recreation board and the Waseca Hall Board. At this meeting, all Waseca organizations and committees give reports on their year's activities. This annual meeting will be held later this month.

The discussion touched on all Waseca recreational facilities. It was pointed out the committees in charge of the hall board, the community centre, the playground and Snell Park are all doing a good job, contrary to what has been reported in some newspapers. The hall will be hosting their annual fall supper on the first Sunday of November; the community centre is rented out on a regular basis and has recently installed a new heating system; and the playground is used extensively. A tree was recently planted in Snell Park in the memory of Karen Mack and plans for a gazebo to built at the park are underway. Another more recent recreational area 小蓝视频 developed is the walking path that, when completed, will be an interesting walk.

Our best wishes to Ruth Sutherland, who is presently hospitalized. We wish you a speedy recovery.

Our best wishes go out to Beth Burkitt of Medstead, who recently celebrated her 90th birthday. Her late husband, Wilf Burkitt, managed Waseca Co-op Store from 1952 to '55. He and Beth both worked in the store. Their two sons, Vernon and Leonard, attended Waseca School. The family was active in the community, playing baseball and hockey and curling in the village rink.

We wish Beth many more years of good health and happiness.
