A bike rally was held Aug. 20, starting from the Maymont Hotel with the route following Highway 16 to almost Saskatoon, then via Martensville to Blaine Lake and over Highway 376 south back to Maymont. The longer route continued to North Battleford and then to Maymont. There were a total of 27 riders and 45 ghost riders. A delicious steak supper and awesome desserts made by Jennifer Combres were enjoyed by all. Thank you to Allan Carnahan and Murray Gray for cooking the steaks and to the crew who set up and cleaned up.
Prize winners were: Lana Spence, $50 of scratch and win tickets; Ron Jacobson, Rider jacket; Garry Anderson, Rider vest; Shirley McIvor and Bill Sherlock, ghost rider t-shirts. Money prizes: first, Donna Hunter; second, Brian Ducharme; third, Darcy Wood; and fourth, Barton Wood. Thanks Edna Carnahan for taking on the writing of this article. Thanks to Dawn and Brian for organizing this great event.
Maymont Seniors Centre hosted other senior centres from surrounding areas, Aug. 22. Special thanks to all the seniors who helped with the event and to the musicians who entertained: Dave Heibert, Walt Dumont, Howard Bulmer, Vern Hoknes, Tom Caldwell, Mel Deagnon and Bert Carpienter as well as Marion Doell who entertained the crowd with a few songs. We would also like to thank those who had a few jokes to share with us: Elsie Voegelie, Gertie Sherman, Sarah Beaudion and Kay Greenslade. As I've said before, potluck suppers are always enjoyable, always a great variety of food.
Early birthday wishes for September: happy 74th birthday to Bert Carpentier on Sept. 6 and happy 93rd birthday to Gertie Sherman on Sept. 14. If you know these two great people, give them a call and wish them happy birthday, as well as Kim Sherman, who's a young pup yet, and his mom, Jean Sherman. (Yes, time flies and where did it leave you? Old too soon smart too late.) Anniversary wishes are also going out to Kim and Judy Sherman. Boy, what a month for those Shermans.
