A special 100th birthday cake to honour Jessie Kuttai was featured at the Jan. 20 potluck supper at Battleford Hillcrest Centre.
Musical entertainment was supplied by Albert Varga and Bob Mallatt and enjoyed by approximately 45 seniors.
The pre-Christmas season was a busy time for the Hillcrest Seniors' Choir. They entertained at the Battlefords District Care Centre November birthday party and at the festival of trees. Dec. 19, they hosted a seniors' Christmas social.
The New Year started off with a regular monthly meeting Jan. 4. Various programs have resumed after the Christmas break. These include Friday afternoon choir, potluck suppers on the third Thursday of the month, cribbage every second and fourth Tuesday evening and kaiser every Thrusday night.
A few enjoy Scrabble on the second and fourth Monday afternoon and computer lessons are available some mornings.
The knitting group is active again, meeting on the second and fourth Tuesday afternoon. They had an active year in 2010, supplying mitts to schools, giving 30 pairs of mitts to the food bank and several lap robes and other items to Battlefords District Care Centre for residents' Christmas gifts. They also had a successful sale at the Co-op Mall.
A few take advantage in the mornings to play games, including pool and shuffleboard.
A fairly new program is the "meal deal," usually on the third Friday of the month from 11: 30 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a lunch of soup and sandwich, muffin with tea or coffee for $5.
Once a month, residents from the district care centre are entertained and the hall is used once a month for a wellness clinic. It is also rented out for various meetings.
Hillcrest Centre is an active place, but more seniors are always welcomed.
