NIPAWIN – Nipawin council approved the tender from Blackrock Paving to pave the aprons on 9th, 11th, Maple Road East and the airport taxiway at the July 8 regular Council meeting.
Michelle Sorenson, CAO said, “These intersections will have 33’ x 80’ aprons constructed to improve water drainage and to reduce maintenance costs." Sorenson said these projects will start in August 2024.
Jaime Fast, General Manager of Operations and Engineering Services said the Nipawin airport has 20 deep asphalt cracks in the taxiway and is in need of repair. The Nipawin airport has private aircraft owners, commercial spray plane operations, other commercial entities, and the Saskatchewan Health Authority operates out of the Nipawin airport. Sorenson said there are approximately 10-15 hangars that are privately-owned and a commercial fuel station.
In the report Nipawin administration has budgeted a total of $95,000 for all the projects.
The taxiway at the airport has a quoted price of $2,000 per crack. The three aprons and the crack repair on the taxiway are quoted at $92,500 to complete all projects.
