EAST CENTRAL — The Highway 3 Baseball League is set for its second postseason.
The Birch Hills Brewers, winners of last season’s inaugural championship, posted a 7-1 record to grab the top seed for the playoffs. The Brewers and the second place Humboldt Dodgers (5-3, winning its final two games at “home” in Marysburg) earned first round byes. The Birch Hills crew will get to pick who it wants to play out of the two teams that survive the first round one-game playoffs.
July 12
Tisdale vs. Pasquia
The Pasquia Angels will host the Tisdale Rangers (3-5 record) on July 12 in Arborfield at 6:30 p.m. The Angels won the regular season series between the two teams, 3-1. However, Tisdale prevailed in the last contest and Pasquia fought hard for a 5-4 extra innings victory in another matchup.
“Keys to the game would be keep building off our late season success,” Tisdale player/organizer Tanner Kirkland said. “Batting, fielding and pitching has been very strong these last few games and we want to keep that rolling.”
July 14
Prince Albert vs Porcupine Plain
In their first Highway 3 season, the Pirates went 4-4 and earned a first round playoff game. They take on the Prince Albert Royals in Porcupine Plain at 6:30 p.m. on July 14. “The key for not only Prince Albert but any opponent for us is fielding,” said Pirates player/organizer Austin Slobodian. “Our pitching and bats have been fairly consistent all year but it’s our defence that has come and gone.”

Adam Morris, one of the co-founders of the Highway 3 Baseball League, said the organizers are really happy with its second campaign. The league expanded from five squads to six with the addition of Porcupine Plain.
“The addition of Porcupine Plain has been great,” Morrison said. “It’s exciting to see that the league looks like it has a strong healthy future ahead.”
