MELFORT – Nate Misskey of Melfort earned a spot on the 63 WHL players to watch list for the 2024 NHL draft from NHL Central Scouting.

Misskey grew up in Melfort with his parents Lisa and Robb. He has two older brothers, Gage and Jake. Misskey started playing hockey around the age of three.

Misskey said his two older brothers both played hockey growing up and taught him many things on the ice. Gage played for the Nipawin Hawks and Jake played for the Melfort Mustangs

Misskey grew up playing in the Northeast. He played locally in Melfort until his atom season. He started playing for the Northeast Wolfpack team, but then went back to Melfort for his peewee year of hockey. He joined the bantam Northeast Wolfpack for a year before deciding to head out west to play at Pacific Coast Hockey Academy in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League. Misskey said he gained a lot of experience during that time.

He moved back to Saskatchewan to play two years with the Prince Albert Mintos in the Saskatchewan Male U18 AAA Hockey League. The season he turned 17 years old he made the roster of the WHL's Victoria Royals where he is playing today.

Misskey’s season stats are currently three goals, 14 assists for a total of 17 points in 17 games played. The Victoria Royals are in sixth place in the western conference

“Getting invited to the Edmonton Oilers rookie tournament was a great experience that I was very fortunate to be a part of.”

His current goal for the season is making the playoffs and is focused on that.

“I would credit a lot of my success to my parents. They always gave me the opportunity to succeed in hockey, including lots of travel and lots of money put into me and the sport.”

Misskey said he doesn’t have any expectations for the draft.

“I’m just focused on the season and doing the best I can to give myself the best opportunity to win.”
