HUMBOLDT — The Humboldt and District Museum and Gallery has partnered with Leo from Humboldt Ink for a series of workshops that shows kids how to make their own traditional Filipino parol lantern.
Leo will be volunteering his time at the Museum to help guide the craft and talk a little about the history and cultural significance of the star-shaped lantern. Leo is from the Philippines. Leo is a known volunteer for the annual Filipino Festival each summer.
A parol (puh-roll) is a traditional Filipino lantern that is displayed during the Christmas season. Typically shaped like a star, the parol dates back to the 1500s in Filipino culture.
