Bjorkdale聽News: U9 team wins first playoff game in over 15 years

The U9 Bjorkdale聽Bruins won a playoff game against the Kinistino聽Tiger through a sudden death overtime.

BJORKDALE — The Under 9 Bjorkdale Bruins claimed victory in their first playoff game against the Kinistino Tigers on Tuesday, March 7, which ended with a sudden death overtime period.

The Bjorkdale fans were treated to an exciting game winning goal by Karsen Babcock and the Bruins won their first playoff game in likely over 15 years. Winning this game meant they needed to playoff with the Tisdale White Ramblers the next day on March 8 where the Bruins season came to an end with a loss against Tisdale.

The Bjorkdale Minor Hockey Association joined the Northeast Minor Hockey League this year and had 2 teams playing all season long. The under 9 Bjorkdale Bruins consisted of: Ryan and Kayden Bratton, Brynn and Sarah Goldsworthy, Cache Schpansky, Nora Horn, Guilinna Vecchio, Emberly Bartsch, Bentley Johnson, Madyson Johnson and Avery Bintner. Head coach was Marty Horn, Assistant coach: Orin Bratton and Manager Nicole Goldsworthy. Bjorkdale also combined with the Arborfield flyers under 11 team who had: Grayson Vecchio, Vidalia van Hasstert and Aubrie Johnson on the team. They played in Bjorkdale against Naicam on March 6 and then in Naicam on March 7th and with two losses had their season come to end as well. 

The Bjorkdale school said goodby to Mrs. Slade just before the February break. She did a wonderful job teaching and just welcomed a new baby boy, named Rylenn Kelly Slade.

The Kindergarten, Grade 1 and 2 class welcomed Ms. Nakonieczny. She is very excited to be back in Bjorkdale School and be a part of the community! Ms. Nakonieczny just recently finished her elementary education degree in Regina and is continuing her education by pursuing her inclusive education certificate. Ms. Nakonieczny said she has had numerous years of experience in the classroom from volunteering, placements and working as a substitute special education assistant for two years.

"Through my education and experience, I can not wait to bring resources and activities to the classroom," she said.
