Bjorkdale News: Car show and slo-pitch

The Village of Bjorkdale also mailed out its tax notices.

BJORKDALE — Bjorkdale was a hub of activity on Sunday, July 31 with the Valley Inn hosted their fourth Annual car show and shine and the Bjorkdale skating rink hosted a slo-pitch tournament.

The Valley Inn had prizes awarded for car, truck and bike. There were over 24 entries and many came out to showcase their vehicles and bikes. Top 3 cars went to:

  1. Joanne Desrosiers
  2. Vic Hudak
  3. Jason Desrosiers

Top 3 Trucks were:

  1. Ricky Nakonieczny
  2. Darlene and Allan Jackson 
  3. James Wingenback

Top 3 bikes were:

  1. Denis Desrosiers
  2. Mike Miller
  3. Jason Desrosiers

Congratulations to all the winners this year.

The Bjorkdale skating rink slo-pitch tournament had seven teams entered and ball was played form 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. that night. The skating rink board would like to acknowledge all those that came out and enjoyed the tournament, supported the raffle and 50/50 and the food booth. Just under $2,000 was raised for the skating rink after all the expenses were tallied. Special acknowledgement to the Valley Inn who sponsored a pizza and jug of beer per team. Thank you to all those that sponsored items in our raffle. Another thank you to Eldon McCormick who sponsored $200 towards the homerun derby. Calder Smith of Porcupine Plain took home that honour. Congratulations to Marty Horn who won the $282 in the 50/50 who generously donated back to the skating rink. And Congratulations to the Marengo Mad Dogs for winning the tournament. And thank you Judi Wearing for volunteering in the food booth.

The Village of Bjorkdale would like to remind residents that all dogs should be leashed around town and no animal should be running at large as per Bylaw 2-10 Animal control. The village also just mailed out 2022 tax notices and discounts have stayed the same with six per cent of current taxes paid prior to Aug. 31, five per cent if paid before Sept. 30, and four per cent if paid before Oct. 31. A 12 per cent interest penalty will be added on Jan. 1, if taxes are not paid by Dec. 31. Taxes can be paid online or through E-transfer, please include your roll number and address of property in the memo. Cash and cheque are also accepted and can be paid by coming into the office Monday, Wednesday or Friday.
