MAREAN LAKE – The 4th Annual Klinger Dinger will be this Aug. 2 and 3 and each year it has grown into an event that many at Marean Lake look forward to.
Rob Wells, organizer for the event said last year they had sold around 1,000 wristbands and that number will likely increase this year.
Wells said that Klinger is the nickname for Kleon Swahn. Kleon Corey Swahn was raised in Rose Valley and spent a lot of his childhood and adult years at Marean lake and area. He worked his dream job as a lineman for 23 years until he was tragically killed in a workplace accident on Dec. 20, 2014.
Wells said that what began as a memorial to a valued community member has blossomed into something that continues to build a sense of pride and unity.
Klinger’s Trail includes eight km of lake views, dense forest, and local fauna. Wells said that the trail is an opportunity to learn, explore, and rejuvenate. There have been seven bridges that have been built to make the trail more user friendly. The trail has been gravelled for increased traction and seasonal use and allows hikers to explore both Marean Lake and Greenwater Provincial Park.
This year, Wells said that they have more activities for the kids which include face painting, treasure hunts, games, and bouncy castles. There is also a co-ed beach volleyball and holey board tournaments with 100 per cent payout. These events have grown annually. You can check out all the activities by clicking .
