Sylvester MegyesiDecember 30, 1933 - March 23, 2011The death of Mr. Sylvester Megyesi of the Bruno district occurred on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at Humboldt District Hospital. He was 77 years of age. Sylvester was born on December 30, 1933, to John and Mary (nee Ostermayer) Megyesi at home on their farm in the Bremen district. He grew up there and attended school in Bremen. Sylvester lived his entire life on the family farm that he and his brothers Julius and Kalman took over from his parents in 1956. Sylvester then bought the farm from his brothers in 1959. In 1961, he married Donna Buxton. They had four children, three sons and one daughter. Sylvester grew a variety of crops and raised cattle, pigs, chickens, and spoiled his cats over the years. He was a devoted Christian and a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Bremen. Sylvester loved reading the bible and his faith guided him throughout his life. He never met a stranger and would often visit and chat with everyone. Sylvester loved his children, family, and friends, and often took pictures and corresponded with them. As a young adult, his hobbies included snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, softball, and golf. As a grandpa, he enjoyed playing Uno. Sylvester will be lovingly remembered by his three children and six grandchildren: Michelle (Eric) Espinosa of Chillicothe, IL, and daughters Renee and Bethany; Curtis (Anita) Megyesi of Washington, IL, and family, Myles (fiancee Valerie), Katie, and Dara; and Dean (Lisa) Megyesi of Escondido, CA, and daughter Alyssa; three brothers and two sisters: John (Kathleen) Megyesi of Portland, OR; Kalman (Lydia) Megyesi of Vancouver, BC; Dan Megyesi of Portland, OR; Betty Sabo of Edmonton, AB; and Alice Scoggins of Portland, OR; sisters-in-law: Olga Megyesi of Edmonton, AB; and Marilyn Megyesi of Portland, OR; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one son, Gary Megyesi; his parents, John and Mary (nee Ostermayer) Megyesi; two brothers: Julius Megyesi and Larry Megyesi; sister-in-law, Elaine Megyesi; and brother-in-law, Frank Sabo. The Funeral Service for Sylvester was held at Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., led by Ed Sabo. Scripture reader was Lisa Megyesi, and a tribute was given by Dennis Megyesi. Music ministry was provided by organist June Kun and guitarist Art Kun. Pallbearers were Curtis, Dean, Myles, and Dennis Megyesi, Eric Espinosa, and Lyle Gold. Interment followed at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery in the Bremen district.
