Lucille Marilyn Konlup was born to Anthony and Katherine (nee Brockman) Konlup on May 22, 1933, just after her identical twin sister Luella, in Humboldt, SK. Lucille attended St. Augustine School for her initial education and the Ursuline Academy in Bruno, SK for high school. In 1952 both young women joined the Ursulines of Bruno becoming Srs. Loretta and Kathleen. Sr. Loretta’s professional life was long and varied as she ably combined her University degrees in Music and in Religious Education. At first she taught piano primarily but was also a classroom teacher in Delta, BC for several years. Other teaching involved the St. Peter’s Adult Religious Studies (SPARS) program in the St. Peter’s Abbacy and she was named Pastoral Associate at St. Augustine Parish during her 28 years on the parish team. With a heart for the disadvantaged and impoverished, Sr. Loretta helped in every way she could. Her involvement with the CWL, the Humboldt Food Bank, Christmas Cheer events and much more, rounded out her ministry. Before this, Sr. Loretta served in various positions and capacities in her religious congregation. She helped draft a new Constitution for the Order, was Novice Mistress for a short period, Assistant to the Superior and also served as the Superior for six years. In 2006, Sr. Loretta was chosen as Humboldt’s Citizen of the Year. A well-deserved title! In 2012 a new ministry was asked of her, to be a companion to her Co-Sister and friend, Sr. Carmelita, who was residing in Samaritan Place, a care home in Saskatoon. Sr. Loretta did this until this past August, 2014, when her final act of love there was providing a week of palliative care before her friend’s death. The St. Augustine Parish had a celebration for her 75th birthday as well as a wonderful farewell upon her retirement. In August of 2013, our sister celebrated 60 years as an Ursuline of Bruno. On October 8, 2014, Sr. Loretta moved into Trinity Manor in Saskatoon. Her illness was sudden and final, yet her family and Ursuline Community rejoice in her completed life with her God and those gone before her. Sr. Loretta is remembered by the children and families of her brother Jim and Jeanette Konlup: Bill and Karen Konlup of Edmonton, AB; Barb and Bruce Nisbet of Saskatoon; Sandy McLeod of Saskatoon; Richard and Susan Konlup of Saskatoon; Brian and Suzanne Konlup of Delta, BC; Robert/Scott and Sandi Konlup of Saskatoon; members of the Konlup/Brockman families and her Ursuline Sisters. She was predeceased by her parents Anthony and Katherine Konlup; infant brother Cyril, brother Jim and sister-in-law Jeanette Konlup, brother Norman Konlup and twin Sister Kathleen Konlup, extended family, and numerous Ursuline Sisters. Words of Remembrance and the Resurrection Liturgy was celebrated at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, on Monday, December 8, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. Clergy present were: by Fr. Ephraim Mensah, presider; Fr. Emile April, homilist; Fr. Lawrence DeMong, OSB, Fr. Paul Paproski, OSB, Fr. Demetrius Wasylyniuk, OSB, Fr. Gerard Dewan, Abbot Peter Novecosky, OSB, Fr. Sr. Loretta’s cremains will be joined to the remains of her twin, Sr. Kathleen, in her gravesite at the Ursuline Cemetery in Bruno at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to the St. Augustine Parish Fund or The Charities of the Ursuline Nuns of Bruno. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
