REIST: Paul Grant

June 14, 1957 – November 22, 2014

It is with immense sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband and father Paul G. Reist of Humboldt, SK, on Saturday, November 22, 2014, at the age of 57. Paul was born to Grant and Emeline (nee Metcalf) Reist on June 14, 1957, in Edmonton, AB. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. He loved spending time with his family. His daughters were a source of great pride, and many remember the times Paul sang with his girls. Paul’s passion was music. He was a gifted musician, performing the songs he wrote, singing and accompanying himself on the piano, and directing choirs. He loved his career as a teacher and was proud to have spent 33 years in the classroom, first at Muenster School and then at St. Brieux School. Paul brought passion to his teaching and strived to make school a place where students wanted to be; he made learning fun. Many family and friends have received gifts of his beautiful origami creations. Paul was rarely seen without his camera in hand. He noticed the beauty in nature and shared it with everyone through his amazing photography. He had a deep faith in God. Many people from the community were touched by his generosity and humorous stories. We will miss his gentle, gracious spirit, and his beautiful singing voice. He is survived by his loving wife, Joanne (nee Petrun) Reist; three daughters: Robyn (Brahm), Allyson, and Megan; parents, Grant and Emeline (nee Metcalf) Reist; two brothers: Phil (Trudy) Reist, and Tim Reist, and their families; mother-in-law, Rose Petrun; and by sisters-in-law: Lynda (Randy) Wall and daughters, and Lori (Bob) Habetler. A service in honor of Paul’s life was held at Westminster United Church, Humboldt, on Saturday, November 29, 2014, at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Brenda Curtis. A scripture was read by Paul’s father, Grant Reist. The eulogy was delivered by Paul’s daughters, Megan, Allyson and Robyn. Music ministry was provided by organist/pianist Tanya Wuchner, the Westminster Church and Community Choir, the Table 18 Men’s Chorus, and the St. Brieux Youth Choir. The final blessing was given by Rev. Al Hingley. In lieu of flowers, a donation in memory of Paul may be made to a charity of your choice. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
