The death of Mrs. Norma Annette (nee Monz) Suchan of St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt, SK, occurred at her residence on Wednesday, January 11, 2012. She was 87 years of age, and the last surviving member of her generation. Norma was born on April 19, 1924, to Samuel and Regina (nee Keebhauck) Monz at home on their farm in the Viscount, SK, district. She grew up there and attended Golden Acre Country School, where she attained her Grade 8 education. On April 22, 1941, at the tender age of 17, Norma married John Suchan at Conception R.C. Church in the Carmel area. They began their life together on a farm south of Carmel, where they started to raise a family. Five children, four daughters and one son, were born to them; however, their son died in infancy. In 1947, the Suchans moved to Humboldt. Norma loved her life-long role as a homemaker and truly enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, and gardening. Over the years, favorite leisure activities included going to dances, flower arranging and crafts, bowling, and playing cards, especially Kaiser and Smear. She was also an active member of the C.W.L. and the New Horizons Senior Citizens Club. Norma will be lovingly remembered by her four daughters, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild: Loretta (Gary) Steffen of Blind Bay, BC, Shelley (Logan) Rodgers, and Jackie (Rob) Steffen and family, Patrick Steffen (Andrea) and daughter Veronica; Laverna Steffen of Kelowna, BC, Kevin Steffen, and Kim Steffen (Dennis) and children Joshua, Chanel and Lexy; Bernadette Kung of Kindersley, SK, Dean Kung; and Charlene Meyers of Saskatoon, SK, Teanna Meyers, and Braeden (Shawna) Meyers; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John F. Suchan (January 1, 2006); son, Joseph Suchan (1942, in infancy); three sons-in-law: Jean Proteau, Derek Webb, and Wayne Steffen; parents, Samuel and Regina (nee Keebhauck) Monz; and by four brothers and five sisters: Frank Monz, John Monz, Susan Monz, Leana Monz, Mat Monz, Kate Bauer, Hilda Pray, Laura Monz, and Bernard Monz (in infancy). The Prayer Service for Norma was held on at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Friday, January 13, 2012, at 7:30 p.m., presided by Nestor Trach.
